Pastoral Care

At Hartford Church of England High School, we aim to create a culture of high expectations, empathy and forgiveness: an inclusive environment where all students have the opportunity to learn and develop in a school where they feel happy and supported.

We wish and expect our students to be:

Happy - Show respect to one another and to our staff. Look after our mental and physical wellbeing.

Achieving - Work towards their goals, both academic and extracurricular. Show resilience and not be afraid to fail.

Ready - Be punctual, equipped and ready to learn every day. Wear their uniform with pride.

Together - Work together in all things - building a school family characterised by tolerance and kindness.

To enable our students to grow through our HART Values, alongside the delivery of our curriculum, we pride ourselves on offering excellent pastoral support for all students. This pastoral care begins in the mornings when students come together with their Form Tutor to prepare for the day ahead and participate in collective worship through our tutor time programme and twice-weekly assemblies. This is underpinned by our Family System, led by four dedicated Heads of Family, which creates a sense of belonging and unites students from across the Key Stages in displaying our values and expectations every day. Alongside this, we also have Heads of Year who oversee the behaviour, attitudes and attendance of all the students in their year group and are ably supported by a team of Pastoral Managers, who in their non-teaching roles, are available throughout the day to support our young people.

Alongside our core pastoral support, we are extremely lucky to have a full-time on-site school counsellor, Miss Godfrey, who offers 1:1 and group sessions to support students with a variety of issues relating to their mental health and wellbeing, including anger management, healthy relationships and anxiety, as well as art therapy.
